What is a Non Rising Gate Valve?

A gate valve with a non-rising stem is known as a non-rising stem gate valve. It is also known as a Blind Stem Wedge Gate Valve or a Rotating Stem Gate Valve.

The stem of this type of valve moves into the disc when the gate is in a closed position. As opposed to the Rising Stem Gate Valve, the threads of a Non Rising Stem Gate Valve are at the bottom of the stem. By looking at the valve, it is impossible to tell whether the gate is open or closed since the stem is not visible.
